Robinia is the hardest of all the floors that we produce. As one of the floor is in the dark range it is produced by a thermo- treatment process. The top layer of the board is placed in a kiln, the oxygen is removed from the kiln then the boards are heated to very high temperature which causes the boards to change colour, the higher the temperature the darker the colour of the boards.
Robinia has a similar grain pattern as oak, the difference is that the colour variation from board to board is more pronounce with the Robinia.
Basic Knotty grade, no sapwood with a straight and wavy grain which produces contrasting colour variation within the grain. Small knots and shakes are filled.
Rustic Our rustic grade is full of natural character, still no sapwood, we use occasional heart wood.
Knotholes and shakes are filled with black filler to increase the rustic feel. Shakes are occasionally not filled completely to add to the rustic character.
Surface textures:
Brushed: The board is brushed along the grain which removes the soft fibres to leave a slightly textured grain.
Sanded: The floor is sanded completely Smooth.
Surface treatments: natural oiled, UV oiled, Matt lacquered.
