Thermowood Redwood

by International Timber
International Timber sources this material from Finland. It is available with PEFC certification. Thermowood is produced by heat treating selected Scandinavian Pine (Pinus sylvestris) which changes the properties of the timber and turns a non-durable timber into a product with class 2 durability (BN EN 350). This thermal process enhances the chemical and physical properties of the timber providing many benefits which include greater stability, no toxic chemicals or additives, colour darkens to an attractive deep brown, and timber can be cut or trimmed without the need to treat the cut ends. Thermowood will weather over a period of time to a silver grey appearance in areas with low air pollution. Discolouration may occur in some situations.
