Dome Nyloc Nylon Insert Nuts are created to DIN 986 standard, but share many of the characteristics of DIN 1587 Dome Nuts.
It is a torque prevailing nut which uses a plastic/nylon insert which is located towards the nut, therefore reducing its inner diameter. This deforms over the mating thread, capturing the bolt or screw and provides a locking feature, causing resistance or prevailing torque, keeping the nut locked into position and resistant to vibration.
The domed design feature of the nut means that the screw threads do not damage the nylon section allowing the nut to be re-used although the locking feature will deteriorate after persistent use.
This economic locking nut is ideal in applications where vibration or motion could loosen or undo the nut. It can also be used to assist sealing the bolt thread against the seepage of oil, water, petrol, parrafin and other liquids.
Dome Nyloc Nuts can be used in environments with relatively high temperatures, where they can retain their locking ability up to 121 C.
Available as standard in Grade 8 Zinc Plating with thread sizes ranging from M4 to M20.
Non-standard sizes are available to order as specials, including small volume manufacture, modifications and custom parts made to drawings.
Please note that these product properties are not a replacement for the manufacturer's literature and it is always recommended that Fastenright is consulted before specifying.
