Brush Finish Concrete Floors

by CBS Concreting

Brush Finish Concrete Floors are typically used as a wearing surface on external yards producing high slip resistance and allowing the water to drain to the falls created. Brushed finishes are suitable for areas trafficked either by vehicular or foot traffic and are also suitable for many types of mechanical handling plant. This type of finish is usually seen to service yards or large industrial parks, and is usually installed with a troweled margin to the perimeter of the slab.

A brushed finish is obtained by pulling a brush over the surface of the fresh concrete, after the surface has been levelled and allowed to harden slightly. The type of finish obtained will depend upon the coarseness of the brush bristles and the length and shape of the tufts. Brushed finishes are suitable for areas trafficked either by vehicular or foot traffic and are also suitable for many types of mechanical handling plant.

Minimum depths are dependent on the weights and loadings being applied to the surface, however due to freeze thaw on external applications, the depth is typically 200mm. Drying times are 24 hours for foot traffic and 96 hours for light traffic dependent on mix designs used. We only recommend mesh or bar reinforcement in these applications due to the risk of fibres at the surface oxidizing and blowing the surface.
