Our focus is on folding doors, and we are specialists in designing them to meet your needs and wishes. We can change the width, height, handle and glass types, as well as the top frame, and furthermore you have the option of getting a top-guided window in your folding door.
CHOICE OF MATERIALS
It is possible to choose from a number of wood species for your outward-opening folding door: oak, beech and mahogany. At Lacuna, we use environmentally friendly processes in our treatment of the wood, which make it as maintenance free as wood / alu.
TMT COMPOSITE®
TMT Composite® (Thermally Modified Timber) is the concept of Lacuna’s advanced heat-treatment, which we use on beech for the folding doors. No chemicals whatsoever, only heat, is used in the treatment. Through the TMT® process the timber obtains durability class 1, as teak, and a humidity of about 5.5%, making the modified timber very suitable for folding doors, as dimensional stability is extremely important for an airtight product that should not need adjustment during changing weather conditions (moisture / draught).
The TMT Composite® also provides much better insulation, as the wood cannot absorb moisture like untreated wood. The result is a folding door that lasts for many, many years.
SURFACE TREATMENT OPTIONS
It is possible to choose among a number of surface treatments – either painted or oiled. More than 90% of what we manufacture is painted TMT beech. We can paint in all colors, and also in transparent paint with UV filter on e.g. TMT Composite®.
At Lacuna we paint our outward-opening folding doors with the same technique as in the automotive industry, priming our products twice with sanding in between and applying two or three layers of top coat, depending on colour. The result is a super smooth surface (many believe it is painted aluminium) that is much more durable than through the traditional technique used in the window industry. the wood cannot absorb moisture like untreated wood. The result is a folding door that lasts for many, many years.
SUPERIOR AIRTIGHTNESS AND INSULATION
The Lacuna folding doors are certified, tight and well insulating. Our passive house standard, patented system is designed with emphasis on great insulation properties and tightness through double seals in the outer frame and triple seals between the door leaves. Lacuna folding doors are built to work from -60 degrees and up to +50 degrees celcius. Therefore, customers far above the polar circle as well as on the Equator are happy with our products. Good insulation and tightness work both ways!
Please note that these product properties are not a replacement for the manufacturer's literature and it is always recommended that Lacuna Bifolds is consulted before specifying.
