The sash offered many advantages as it could be closed down to a narrow gap, allowing for good ventilation. It is constructed from sections of wood, with large areas of Glass that add a certain grace. Even when open they do not detract from the looks of a building as an open casement would.
By the turn of the century the sash was the most widely used window, but since the first world war their popularity has been in decline. This is somewhat due to the labour costs involved in their manufacture when compared to the easily mass produced wooden or metal casement window.
In the early days of upvc windows, traditional Sash Windows were ripped out and replaced with “mock” sash windows which were usually of a top opening window over a fixed lower pane. With advances in technology, Thermoshield are now able to manufacture a high efficiency upvc replacement sash window that replicates the workings of the original units, using springs and balances instead of the weights and pulleys. Both sections of the sash slide, as well as tilt inwards for easy cleaning from the inside.
Please note that these product properties are not a replacement for the manufacturer's literature and it is always recommended that Thermoshield Windows is consulted before specifying.
