The Safevent Window provides an eminently practical solution to the problems posed by the need for security to be applied with sensitivity whilst maximising natural light and ventilation.
Our flagship product, the unique, multi-award-winning and internationally acclaimed Safevent anti-ligature window, has become a benchmark product for supervised care environments. Addressing many concerns about creating safe, secure, anti-ligature surroundings, the Safevent window also restricts the ability to pass contraband, whilst generating maximum natural ventilation levels that improve comfort for all users.
TRIED AND TESTED
Such has been the success of Safevent windows that tens of thousands have been installed worldwide assuring the safety and security of many people and improving buildings environmental performance. The windows have undergone and passed all relevant statutory testing.

SAFEVENT WINDOWS: SAFE AND CONTROLLABLE - DELIVERING OPTIMUM VENTILATION
The Safevent window from Britplas is a unique and patented window system, initially developed to address issues arising when trying to create a safe environment for patients in secure mental health units.
The Safevent window is now established as the industry standard in the mental health sector but is now also being specified across a wide variety of healthcare buildings for its many other benefits, including ventilation.
And the windows are widely used in many sectors, with over 15,000 installed in hundreds of projects worldwide. Safevent s effectiveness has been tried and tested across many environments and, as a result, the window has won many industry awards.
The Safevent window comprises a double fronted window and a free sliding internal or external sash. The window has one glazed area and the other is fitted with a stainless steel mesh. The mesh is not visible so delivers security in a sensitive and subtle manner.
Although initially developed as an anti-ligature product, the window system s in-line sliding action provides patients/occupants with a greater degree of control whilst overcoming the 100mm restriction on opening and maintaining complete security. Safevent windows offer the real benefit of allowing maximum levels of natural light and ventilation whilst being totally secure and for this reason have now been specified across non mental health hospitals, schools and commercial buildings.
The windows are manufactured to an exceptionally high standard and every component can withstand considerable force. The Safevent window is available in aluminium or uPVC and units can be manufactured in virtually any colour. Manual, mechanical and automatic electronic versions are available.
SUSTAINABLE AND ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
Safevent windows achieve fresh air supplies of at least 5L/S/ per person, whilst keeping CO2 levels at approximately 500ppm, well below the required average of 1500ppm. In addition, Safevent windows remove the need for large carbon footprint air-conditioning, fans or stacks, minimising environmental impact and contributing towards building sustainability. Safevent windows are low-cost, highly efficient and sustainable, Green Guide A-rated and conform to BREEAM building best practice criteria.
MATERIAL OPTIONS, FITTING, CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
The Safevent Window is available in aluminium or uPVC, with the new stainless-steel/aluminium combination available for the more sever environment. Units can be manufactured (in all materials) in any RAL colour with different internal/external colours if required.
We have manual, mechanical and automatic electronic versions. Every installation is thoroughly planned in advance. From a single window to a full hospital complex, our fitting crews are fully trained to carry out your installation with as little disruption as possible and are all experienced in 'live' environments.
Safevent windows have no locks or complex moving parts, therefore cleaning and maintenance is kept to a minimum, with self cleaning glass as a standard within our recommended glazing specification, ensuring reduced ongoing costs. A three point locking system is available when an over ride facility is deemed appropriate.
The window is environmentally sound and boasts excellent low U values in both uPVC and Aluminium.
MAINTAINING AND CLEANING THE SAFEVENT WINDOW
The design of the window ensures security is never compromised. We have tested many different variations of the Safevent including removable mesh and opening sliding sashes.
However when security is essential but safe ventilation and anti-ligature surroundings are still a high requirement, the recommendations will always go back to a fixed mesh scenario. Each folded stainless steel mesh plate is secured by 50mm rivots factory applied every 100mm. This means that an average size Safevent will have an incredible 40-50 rivots ensuring the mesh is safe and secure. We have had hundreds of live tests on the mesh and this fixing method has NEVER failed.
SO, WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO TO ENSURE THE WINDOWS PERFORM AS PER DESIGN AND THAT THE WINDOWS ARE KEPT CLEAN?
Quite simply, ensure that a cleaning programme is put in place that ensures the window is adequately cleaned on a regular basis. To keep the fixed slider clean we recommend spraying water through the mesh and onto the self-clean glass at least once per month. By doing this the glass surface will keep itself clean. (De-ionised pure water is preferred as this reduces any streaking on the glass - but not essential).
If you fail to carry out a regular cleaning regime and the fixed slider becomes badly soiled, then we can supply special sash brushes that can be inserted behind the slider to agitate the dirt. A window that is particularly dirty will take no more than 15 -20 minutes to clean.
We also offer a deep-clean and maintenance service for any particularly difficult environments. This video link 'Cleaning the Safevent window' shows you how easy it is to refurbish badly soiled Safevent windows.
Please note that these product properties are not a replacement for the manufacturer's literature and it is always recommended that Britplas Fabrications Limited is consulted before specifying.
