As well as allowing for natural ventilation, the position of the mesh means nothing can be thrown out, or passed in, plus it keeps unwanted pests out.
Not only is fresh air conducive to comfort for a building's occupants, by providing natural ventilation, the need for mechanical plant for ventilation and cooling for the entire design is omitted, bringing significant environmental and cost savings.

OPTIMISING VENTILATION WITHOUT COMPROMISING SAFETY

Designed and manufactured exclusively by Britplas, Rapidvent windows give both pupils and teachers total control over fresh airflow in classrooms and schools, whilst ensuring safety and security even when windows are fully opened.
When the sash is open the window-ventilator design allows the flow of fresh air and daylight to enter the space, providing both comfort and a stimulating environment for the building s users.

The Rapidvent window system enables new and existing buildings to lower their energy consumption, bringing significant environmental and cost savings, by opting for non-mechanical or mixed-mode ventilation. Utilising the robust stainless steel mesh allows for night purging, ensuring peace-of-mind that a building s security is not compromised.

PROVEN DESIGN AND EFFICACY

Understanding the importance of natural ventilation and the constant supply of fresh air (and natural light) in educational buildings, Britplas appointed the global design, engineering and management consultancy, WSP, to undertake a Technical Performance Study of their Rapidvent window.

WSP devised a series of tests to demonstrate Rapidvent s performance in a school, comparing the resultant environmental conditions within a test model against an identical building with a standard top-hung window on 100mm restrictors.

The tests were designed to explore internal temperature, ventilation rate, air quality and daylight. Additionally, the properties of the mesh were examined using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) allowing the behaviour of air streams within the classroom to be analysed.

The CFD results showed that the fresh air delivered to the classrooms by the Rapidvent penetrates significantly further into the back of the room, reducing the potential for stagnation.

These results mean that the Rapidvent window system addresses the key criteria associated with the regulatory standards of BB101 and considers recommendations of ASHRAE 55.

Further analysis of energy and economics demonstrated a potential 5,300 saving from avoided plant per classroom, in addition to 120 per classromm, per year reduction in running costs.

The results of the desk top studies were overwhelmingly positive and confirm the ability of Rapidvent windows to provide naturally ventilated buildings that are both comfortable and stimulating for its occupants and users, at a cost that is positive both environmentally and in monetary terms.
