Stone Mastic Asphalt

Stone mastic asphalt, or SMA as it is commonly called, contain a high proportion of single sized coarse aggregate combined with mineral filler, fine aggregate a bitumen. SMA is primarily a surface course product but is also available as a binder course material. Aggregates with a high PSV are normally specified for the surface course mixture’s that give the finished pavement good micro & macrotexture that will produce excellent skid resistance & rut resistance properties. At Breedon, we produce our own polymer modified bitumen that is incorporated into all of our SMA mixtures as specified.
