MgO board is similar to cement board gypsum panels or drywall, but is stronger, fire-proof, and is more resistant to mould, mildew, moisture, and weather. It is also known as sulphite board, sulphite panels or magnesium board.
Magnesium oxide is a type of mineral cement containing magnesium (chemical symbol Mg) and oxygen (chemical symbol O) created under heat and pressure during the manufacturing process. It has similar characteristics as stone. Combined with non-woven fabric, fibreglass mesh and wood cellulose produces a strong panel.
MgO boards contain no asbestos, formaldehyde, ammonia, silica, or benzene chemicals (like benzene) which have negative environmental effects. No special tools required to cut, score, nail, screw or hang. The boards can be finished by just two coats of paint, or wallpapered or rendered. User friendly on-site, containing no carcinogenic dust, fly ash, or other toxins which makes them very safe to work with.
Please note that these product properties are not a replacement for the manufacturer's literature and it is always recommended that Specialised Panel Products Ltd is consulted before specifying.
