Healthcare Estates 2023

05-07-2023

Quantum Flooring Solutions will be exhibiting at Healthcare Estates 2023 on the 10th and 11th of September at Manchester Central. Quantum will be on Stand F12 at the event, with flooring accessory experts on hand to advise attendees on its many health, hygiene and safety-conscious products.

Q-Range Wide

One of the products Quantum representatives will be talking about is Q-Range Wide stair nosings. This range of profiles are designed as a superior alternative to double channel stair nosings. The tread is at least 78mm wide, with the ramped back versions measuring 83mm. This offers a similar surface area to double channel stair nosings, but with some notable benefits/improvements.

Q-Range Wide has an all over tread, so the slip resistant material runs all the way from the edge of the nose to the back of the profile, helping to prevent slips, trips and falls. The entire tread portion promotes greater slip resistance than traditional double channel stair nosings. This not only makes the surface safer, it also eliminates dirt traps making the profiles simple to clean and maintain.

The riser of these stair nosings has a satin anodised finish as standard. This prevents any issues with glare, which can impede people when using staircases, especially those with eyesight issues. Q-Range Wide is available to fit flat fronted, rake back, and bull nose steps. This means that they are just as suitable for new, state-of-the-art healthcare facilities as they are for the retrofitting of care homes or other residential projects.

Dementia Friendly Flooring Transitions

We will also be discussing our dementia friendly transitions, particularly our QTP38T profile. This 2.5mm transition is ideal for the junction between two resilient floorcoverings in a hospital, clinic, or similar environment where it is necessary to create a slip and trip resistant join.

The QTP38T is available in 14 colours, so it can be matched with floorcoverings across the LRV spectrum. This is particularly useful in dementia friendly environments, which is vital in a range of healthcare settings. It means that specifiers can ensure there is no sudden colour change in the flooring, which can alarm those suffering from dementia and other related conditions.

There is also a QTP38R dementia friendly ramp transition. This can be used in a transition from vinyl to carpet, which may be necessary in residential care. Both of these profiles come in colours which can be matched exactly with Quantum’s slip resistant stair nosing tread, adding an extra aspect of safety to the transitions.

Floormitres, Coving and Capping Strips

When it comes to hospitals and other large healthcare facilities, a major part of maintaining a safe and hygienic environment is regular cleaning of all surfaces. This is especially the case with floors, which must be simple to both clean and dry quickly and efficiently, to prevent slip hazards. This often necessitates the use of heavy industrial machinery, which can damage flooring, causing trip hazards and traps for dirt and germs.

Quantum’s floormitre, coving and capping strip system helps to solve these problems in a range of ways. Often, vinyl or other resilient floorcovering is particularly vulnerable where it meets the wall at corners, as it is difficult for flooring contractors to mitre the angles correctly. CCFM1 is the internal floormitre, while CCFM2 is the external version, allowing flooring fitters to create a flush and hygienic finish every time on each corner. When used with Quantum Flooring coving and capping strips, this system also reinforces the resilient floorcovering, helping to prevent flooring failure.

These floormitres should be fitted with Quantum’s QCF35 cove former, to ensure a smooth and uniform support along the whole floor-to-wall junction. The vinyl can then be finished up the wall with the UCS1, UCS2, or the slimline UCS3 capping strip, which minimises the opportunity for dirt traps. For wet rooms, the vinyl can be fitted all the way up the wall where the floormitres can also be used in the roof to wall corners.
