Naturally occurring lava stone offers a breathtaking, even chameleon-like potential to designers for Single bespoke made items cut from block or slab. The ability to offer a beautiful and crazed glaze finish is unique to lava as is its natural unglazed & characterful surface finishes. Lava is taken from many volcanic areas but it will be the heavy weight types, as opposed to pumice, which allow for such applications. Lava Stone is a natural quarried rock which is usually sourced from France or Italy and hand worked for surface, colour or texture. It has unusual character in that, as it was flowing red hot once, it has the ability to dissipate heat very well, this means one can place very hot pans on the surface without damage; this evenness of heat distribution also allows us to add a ceramic coloured glaze on the surface adding a designers wealth of ideas and possibilities. Its hardness allows work surfaces to withstand chopping whilst actually blunting the knife edge. One can offer radical and durable contemporary catering and kitchen surfaces and unusual wall linings as well as uniquely tailored sinks and sanitary objects. Our ethos of sustainability is held true in that we promote this material as a natural resource, but one which is so long lasting that it encourages the reduction of the “throw away attitude” often seen in domestic kitchen Surfacing.
Please note that these product properties are not a replacement for the manufacturer's literature and it is always recommended that Low Impact is consulted before specifying.
