This beautiful chic London Victorian property now has a basement kitchen that was recently designed and made by the Edmondson Interiors team. The clients chose to work with Edmondson Interiors after coming to an event at our Kent showroom. This gave them the opportunity to evaluate the quality of our furniture at first hand and to enjoy a cooking demonstration on some Gaggenau appliances.
This project was interesting and challenging because Edmondson Interiors was asked to rearrange the use of various rooms. The basement to this Victorian house was very accessible but needed some love and attention. This eventually became the kitchen with a dining area opening out to a rear garden. Initially we had to add a suspended ceiling, remove some book cases, clean and repoint two areas of brick work to either side of the chimney breast and raise the lintel in the chimney breast so that the Mercury range cooker could be positioned here.
Our designer Simon Gray played an important role in this initial design work. The brickwork proving to be a significant feature in the final design. With the initial building works eating into the budget for the kitchen we advised the clients on how the existing oak floor could be reused to keep costs down.
Naturally the pale grey paint colours and lighting in the kitchen were really important elements to get spot on in this kitchen. This brings a completely different dimension to the room in the evening.
The clients specified that an island in the kitchen was an important part of the brief and as islands often do it transformed this kitchen into a very sociable space. The island also enabled us to put in some very useful deep drawer storage and it has become the main Food Preparation area of the kitchen. The quality wooden oak drawer interiors and larder storage details and other Edmondson Interiors design details made has made this a dream kitchen to cook in.
As always the most important criteria in designing a kitchen of this size is to make sure every square inch of the space works, whilst a balance between having enough space to comfortably move around and the practical aspect of making it a fabulous kitchen to cook and spend time in is accurately met.
We returned to assist with the renovation of the ground floor. Removing the original kitchen and making some book cases, low level cupboards and a ladder. Altogether a very, very satisfying result for a charming couple. Our clients just had a perfect touch with keeping Victorian elements and adding accessories to add colour and life and interest.
Please note that these product properties are not a replacement for the manufacturer's literature and it is always recommended that Edmondson Interiors is consulted before specifying.
