Take a deep dive into how to get the most out of brickwork construction.
Interested in using bricks on your next project? This CPD presentation focusses on the important technical aspects of brickwork that will help you achieve your vision. Join us to find out more about product selection, bond patterns, mortar choice, movement joints, how to read technical data sheets and more.
Causes of movement and how to avoid it
This seminar looks at the most important technical issues that need to be taken into consideration when designing with clay brick. Product selection, brick properties, expansion joints and mortar are all discussed with a focus on how this can affect design and detailing.
Go back to basics with this exploration into brick architecture of the past and present.
This CPD session tells you everything you need to know about the humble brick, taking us from the ancient world to modern day. We’ll take you through types of bricks, production methods and masonry techniques, with stunning case studies along the way to showcase the huge potential of this “traditional” building material.
Discover more about our revolutionary Porotherm system. Find out what benefits our system has to offer, alongside how quick and easy it is to install. Our multi-cellular clay block walling system provides a drier, safer and more sustainable building solution than traditional blockwork, it provides a solid walling material that delivers clear performance, environmental and economical benefits.
The heart of the system, and the secret of the speed and efficiency when laying, is the precision engineered Porotherm clay blocks. The blocks are ground after firing which give them tight tolerances and enable the use of a thin joint mortar system. This is complemented by a unique interlocking vertical joint on the perpendicular end which also further reduces the need for mortar compared to traditional blockwork.
In this presentation we will provide an overview of flat roof solutions, exploring in detail the inverted roofs applications: construction principles, what makes them unique and the potential benefits of designing and specifying inverted roofs.
We will also take a closer look at cellular glass insulation: what it is, how it is manufactured, and the role cellular glass insulation can play in inverted roofs. In addition, we will address specification requirements, particularly around considerations such as thermal insulation and fire performance. And finally, we’ll explore insulation and the benefits that it can bring to an inverted roof solution.
Key Learnings:Elevating Design, Ensuring Compliance will provide an in-depth examination of the British Standard released in 2020. This standard outlines the essential guidelines and requirements for the design, construction, and maintenance of roof terraces and balconies. It includes specifications to ensure structural integrity, proper drainage, and long-term durability. Furthermore, it addresses critical safety aspects, such as load-bearing capacity, guardrail heights, and slip resistance, with the aim of reducing risks and creating functional, secure, and aesthetically pleasing spaces that comply with modern regulations and best practices.
Useful Information:Location: Held at the London Design Studio or on Microsoft Teams.
Timing: Presentations are approximately 45 minutes – we usually hold these around lunchtime.
Attendees: Our seminars require a minimum of 5.
Join us as we explore fire rated doors. We will demystify the practice of manufacturing a steel fire rated door, things to consider for specification.
