Using windposts as 'propped cantilevers' can considerably reduce the deflection of a post whilst increasing the loading capacity when compared with a simply supported post.
Propped cantilevers will need a large base connection of at least four fixing bolts and a standard simply supported head cleat.
As with parapet posts, a large base connection is needed in order to resist the ‘bending moment’ created.
Occasionally this may be impractical to incorporate within the floor construction, for example, floors without screed finishes. As always, our Technical Design Team will be pleased to calculate the ‘bending moment’ for you and advise you on the size of base plate required.
All Wincro Propped Cantilever windposts are suffixed with F in their product code to denote the fixed base connection, for example, WP5C8560F.
Please note that these product properties are not a replacement for the manufacturer's literature and it is always recommended that Wincro Metal Industries is consulted before specifying.
