Commercial sewage treatment plant installed in Fort William.

This case study took place in Glen Nevis (Fort William) in 2018.

The parties involved in the project:

The Glen Nevis Youth Hostel is located just outside Fort William and at the foot of Ben Nevis. There were significant refurbishment works being done on the hostel (it was a brand-new hostel), and there was a need for a new sewage treatment solution.

The new build project was managed by Ogilvie Construction. Tricel's commercial sewage treatment plant was sourced by Ogilvie Construction through Keyline.

Keyline is one of the leading drainage and civil engineering companies in the UK. Providing a wide range of building materials at more than 60 of their branches in the UK, they help customers complete projects on time.

To complete the installation, Tricel contracted Xoli Ltd to commission the wastewater treatment plant. Xoli specialises in wastewater treatment and drainage. The company can provide guidance on sewage treatment solutions and can service a variety of commercial products.

The challenges:

The beginning of 2018 was particularly challenging for the construction industry due to less than ideal site conditions. As it turned out, the year began particularly cold and wet, and winter lasted longer than expected, so many projects were delayed.

Weather conditions and poor site conditions also hindered the installation of the 100 PE Tricel Optima sewage treatment plant. By working with Keyline and Ogilvie Construction, we were able to delay the delivery and original installation date until the site was ready. We kept the Optima wastewater treatment plant on hand until the project called for it.

How did Tricel help?

To meet the site conditions and the wastewater treatment requirements of Glen Nevis Hostel, Tricel supplied a suitable 100 PE Tricel Optima commercial sewage treatment plant. In addition to technical support, we dealt directly with the builder so that our customers had peace of mind. Additionally, we arranged for a wastewater specialist, Xoli Ltd, to carry out the commissioning of the system once the installation was complete.

Feedback from Billy Sutherland from Ogilvie Construction:

"Absolutely perfect, definitely one of the better tanks we have installed; all went smoothly except the weather. You and your team answered any questions we had quickly, and the commissioning went ahead seamlessly. I will be recommending you to the buying team for any upcoming projects I am involved in."
