Queens Quay, Bristol

Queens Quay is a £5.6 million refurbishment and reconfiguration of a four-storey office building in central Bristol, led by AWW Architects. The scheme focused on open-plan layouts, light-filled interiors, and enhanced wellness facilities, targeting BREEAM Excellent and Wired Score Platinum certifications. A key part of the brief was encouraging active travel and supporting healthy working lifestyles. To deliver this, the reception was extended and new showers, changing rooms, and basement cycle storage were introduced as core building amenities.

Working closely with AWW Architects and Method & Beard, The Bike Storage Company designed, supplied, and installed a fully integrated end-of-trip solution. Each product was manufactured in Britain, finished to the project's design palette, and installed by BSC's in-house team for a seamless handover.

Wall-mounted Premium Vertical Bike Racks were installed to secure both wheel and frame, powder-coated to a custom RAL colour for a consistent aesthetic and positioned at 305mm centres to maximise space efficiency within the basement. Modular Free-Standing Vertical Bike Racks provided flexible layout options, with contrasting cradle and frame colours chosen to complement the interior design and 350mm centre spacing optimised for density. Folding Bike Lockers — three-tier units designed for Brompton-style bikes — featured double-perforated steel doors for ventilation and visual lightness, with digital coded locks for secure, user-friendly access. An Internal Maintenance Station, equipped with eight tethered tools and a heavy-duty floor pump on a universal mounting system, was installed to support long-term cycling uptake within the workplace. Westminster Clothing Lockers with moisture-resistant MDF cores, high-pressure laminate finishes, Z-locker configuration, and integrated hanging rails were specified in laminates selected to match the interior palette, providing the changing and storage amenity expected of a premium active travel suite.

All components were manufactured in Britain from durable, low-impact materials, meeting BREEAM Excellent and ISO 9001/14001 standards. Finishes were carefully colour-matched to the architectural scheme throughout, creating a unified look that reinforces the building's cycle-friendly and sustainability-focused identity. Close coordination with Method and Beard ensured timely installation with minimal disruption to the wider refurbishment works.

Queens Quay now features a complete active travel suite that aligns with its wellness and sustainability objectives — a clean, modern, and user-focused facility that makes cycling to work practical, secure, and genuinely appealing. The project demonstrates how integrated cycle storage can become a core part of modern workplace design rather than an afterthought, supporting active travel, reducing carbon impact, and enhancing tenant satisfaction.
