As part of a wider redevelopment at Homebase Wandsworth, BSC was commissioned to design, manufacture, and install bespoke cycle storage solutions and complementary street furniture. The brief was to deliver a durable, design-led cycle storage system that would complement the site's modern architecture and provide staff and visitors with secure, user-friendly facilities to encourage sustainable travel.
Working closely with the client, BSC supplied and installed a suite of Richmond Cycle Shelters alongside stainless steel Sheffield Cycle Stands, litter bins, bollards, and hardwood timber benches. Three shelters were manufactured in varying capacities — 6, 13, and 20 spaces — each powder-coated in RAL finishes matched to the site's design palette. Toughened glass roofing with integrated guttering and drainage systems was specified throughout, providing both longevity and a premium finish consistent with the site's architectural language.
Sheffield Cycle Stands in Grade 304 stainless steel were installed for secure, easy cycle parking, designed to withstand the demands of a high-traffic retail environment. Hardwood timber benches and coordinated street furniture were introduced to enhance the public realm, providing practical resting areas that sit cohesively alongside the cycle storage provision. All shelters were manufactured to BS EN ISO 1461:2022 standards using hot-dipped galvanised steel for long-term corrosion protection, and are proudly Made in Britain.
Installation was planned to minimise disruption to the live site. Shelters were bolt-fixed to foundations with integrated drainage, providing a low-maintenance solution from day one. Design details including laminated glass panels, hidden fixings, and premium hardwood finishes balance functionality with architectural refinement throughout.
The completed scheme has delivered secure cycle parking for over 35 bicycles, a cohesive public realm that blends seamlessly with the site's modern aesthetic, and a durable, future-proof infrastructure solution built for heavy daily use. The project demonstrates how well-designed, bespoke cycle storage can elevate both functionality and customer experience in retail environments — investing in infrastructure that is visually integrated, sustainable, and built to last.
