Court Place Gardens, Oxford

24-10-2025

Court Place Gardens is a landmark residential development by Oxford University, providing high-quality sustainable housing for post-graduate students and their families. With 71 new-build homes constructed to Passivhaus principles, alongside the refurbished Grade II listed Mansion House, the scheme places sustainability, community, and long-term durability at its core. The development's eco-conscious infrastructure includes solar panels, air-source heat pumps, and a fossil fuel-free energy strategy. BSC was selected to design and install a series of bespoke cycle and bin storage solutions to complement this ambition.

Storage across the scheme needed to satisfy four core requirements: security, with durable access-controlled facilities providing peace of mind for residents; sustainability, reflecting the site's green ethos through sedum green roofing and BREEAM-compliant cycle racks; high capacity, accommodating Oxford's thriving cycling culture while managing the practicalities of waste and recycling; and aesthetic alignment, ensuring new structures complemented the development's modern yet contextually sensitive architectural design.

BSC delivered a series of bespoke Greenwich Bin and Cycle Stores tailored to the development's requirements. Multiple Greenwich Cycle Stores were installed, offering secure, ventilated, and weather-protected cycle storage. Gas Assisted Two-Tier Racks with Sheffield Lowers were incorporated for ease of use and maximised space efficiency, delivering a total provision of over 140 dedicated cycle spaces across the scheme. Greenwich Bin Stores were supplied and installed with robust hot-dip galvanised steel frames and powder-coated finishes, incorporating fire-rated steel panel upgrades and intumescent coating to meet stringent safety standards for bin storage in a high-density residential setting. Sedum green roofing systems were applied across select stores, contributing to biodiversity net gain and stormwater management. Access-controlled gates provide resident-only entry and improved security throughout.

All products were manufactured in Britain, ensuring quality assurance and reduced transport emissions. Fire safety and BREEAM standards were met throughout without compromise to design or usability.

The completed facilities at Court Place Gardens deliver practical, user-friendly storage for residents cycling into Oxford city centre or along the Thames path; robust, low-maintenance materials suited to high-traffic student accommodation environments; green roofing and energy-efficient design that reinforces the scheme's Passivhaus-led sustainability credentials; and full compliance with fire safety and BREEAM requirements from handover.
