The Arc is a newly developed residential and commercial tower situated east of central London at 225 City Road. The Bike Storage Company was commissioned to design and deliver a high-quality cycle storage and End-of-Trip facility to support the rise of active commuting. With sustainability and urban mobility at the forefront, the scheme required a secure, space-efficient, and visually refined solution aligned with BREEAM environmental standards.

The challenges were fourfold: maximising capacity within a constrained footprint while maintaining accessibility for all users; integrating security measures without compromising usability; meeting strict durability and environmental standards for all materials and finishes; and delivering within a tight construction programme alongside other on-site works.

The solution comprised a fully bespoke, British-made facility across six core components. Gas-Assisted Two-Tier Bike Racks provided 74 spaces with gas-assisted upper tiers for effortless loading and unloading, hot-dipped galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461:2022 for long-term protection. Single-Tier Racks delivered a further 186 spaces arranged in staggered heights for optimal density, each fitted with dual locking hoops for enhanced security. Eighteen Folding Bike Lockers provided dedicated Brompton-style storage with key or padlock cam locks for compact, secure individual use. Twenty external Sheffield Stands in galvanised steel offered short-term visitor parking at ground level. A fully equipped Maintenance Station with universal mounts and essential repair tools supported the daily needs of regular commuters. Security Mesh Fencing with perforated mesh panels ensured visibility and structural strength throughout the cycle store, integrated with digital access control for restricted entry.

To complement the storage area, premium Camden and Westminster Clothing Lockers were installed as part of a full End-of-Trip facility. Both locker ranges feature ventilated, moisture-resistant carcasses and multiple locking system options, providing secure and comfortable changing and storage amenities for regular cyclists.

The installation was completed on schedule and in full compliance with BREEAM requirements, delivering a user-friendly, high-capacity facility that enhances both sustainability and convenience for building occupants. The 278 cycle spaces — spread across multiple storage systems — were delivered with seamless architectural integration, combining function, durability, and design quality throughout.
