17 York Street is a cornerstone of Manchester's business district, offering premium office space in a prime central location. With sustainability at its core, the development required high-quality cycle storage to meet tenant needs and align with its net-zero carbon goals. The Bike Storage Company partnered with Rolfe Contracting Limited to design, supply, and install secure, space-efficient systems that promote active commuting and integrate cleanly with the building's modern architectural language.
The solution comprised five British-made, BREEAM-friendly components, each selected for capacity, durability, and user experience.
Semi-Vertical Racks were specified to maximise capacity within a compact footprint, enabling secure wheel and frame locking throughout. The racks are BREEAM-compliant and support the development's sustainability objectives. Folding Bike Lockers — Brompton-compatible — were finished in a durable powder-coated RAL yellow to match the scheme's accent palette, providing safe, space-saving storage for folding bikes. A Public Bike Maintenance Station equipped with essential tools and a universal mount allows tenants to carry out convenient on-site tune-ups without leaving the building. Perforated Mesh Sliding Gates and Fencing deliver secure access control with excellent visibility for passive surveillance, maintaining a clean and contemporary appearance. Timber Slat Fencing using FSC-certified softwood battens on a hot-dip galvanised framework introduces natural warmth within a robust enclosure, complementing the interior finishes throughout the cycle store.
All steelwork was hot-dip galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461:2022 for long-term corrosion resistance, with the complete installation BREEAM-compliant and Made in Britain.
The result is a high-capacity, compact cycle facility that encourages daily cycling and active travel, with secure and durable enclosures designed for heavy use and easy maintenance. BREEAM-aligned, low-carbon infrastructure supports 17 York Street's net-zero ambitions, while the finishes and detailing complement the building's architectural identity and strengthen its ESG credentials and long-term asset value.
