Tarmac’s rubber modified asphalt uses warm mix asphalt technology to achieve a lower carbon footprint, typically 8% lower than the equivalent conventional SMA. Rubber Modified Asphalts also recycle the rubber from around four tyres for every 30m2 of asphalt so a 3000m2 car park would allow nearly 400 tyres to be diverted from landfill. This helps to reduce the 120,000 tonnes of rubber waste exported from the UK each year. Rubber Modified Asphalts have been rigorously tested, including on some of the busiest UK motorways and deliver the same performance and surface characteristics as a conventional 50 pen stone mastic asphalt in terms of regularity and texture.
