B649 Single-phase Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger (BPHE)

by SWEP

The B649 is ideal for district heating and cooling networks, HVAC, and industrial projects that need an efficient compact BPHE with close temperature approaches at high operating pressures. The big, one-phase B649 delivers PHE-like capacities without the wear and tear of parts. Most of the material (95%) in BPHEs is used to transfer heat, compared with other technologies that use a lot of material for supports, frames, etc. This high-capacity BPHE saves money on spare parts, space, energy consumption, transportation, and installation.

In district heating networks, the B649 is used as a pressure breaker between the plant and the residential and industrial buildings. In a District Cooling network, it is typically used in substations to link up cool water from the district cooling plant to urban buildings. The B649 is also developed for use in various industrial process cooling and heating applications.

BPHE - The Concept

The Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger (BPHE) is constructed as a plate package of corrugated channel plates with a filler material between each plate. During the vacuum brazing process, the filler material forms a brazed joint at every contact point between the plates, creating complex channels. The BPHE allows media at different temperatures to come into close proximity, separated only by channel plates that enable heat from one media to be transferred to the other with very high efficiency. The concept is similar to other plate and frame technology but without the gaskets and frame parts.
