Also known as platform lifts, access lifts provide a safe and convenient means of moving between different building levels for individuals with mobility challenges. Stannah Lifts supplies domestic, commercial and public access lifts, and our sister company, Stannah, helps with mobility in the home.

Prices start from £19,000, for our vertical platform lifts, which includes the lift’s supply and installation, plus a 2-year maintenance and repair package.

If a lift is going to be used by wheelchair users for public or commercial access – the floor space of a lift needs to accommodate this. Usually, this means a size of at least 1100mm x 1400mm. Home lifts can be made smaller if the size of a wheelchair is known.

When designing a building, the main advantage of an access lift is that it requires only a small pit and headroom. A ramp can also be used if it’s impossible to provide a pit

Access lifts are governed by the Machinery Directive regulations (not the Lift Directive) which means they are restricted to a speed of 0.15m/s, around 20 seconds per floor.

A DDA-compliant lift is a wheelchair lift that conforms to the new Equality Act. The act requires all public buildings to have wheelchair access and references Part M or Section 4.2 to give more specific guidance on disabled access lift requirements.
