Gateshead Quays MSCP – Project Secured

The uber-modern multi-storey car park at Gateshead Quays has been commissioned by Gateshead Council as part of the wider development of the area. The waterside Baltic Quarter will be home to the UK’s newest International Conference and Arena venue, due to open in 2024.

£290m worth of investment into the scheme will provide a 12,500-seat arena, 2,800 m² of flexible meeting space, 6,300 m² of exhibition space, 2 new hotels and a variety of restaurants. To serve the patrons of the exciting new facilities, a 1,000-space multi-storey car park has been awarded to main contractor, Willmott Dixon under the Scape National Major Works framework.

Over 2,000 new jobs have been created under the new development, with Willmott Dixon maximizing social value outcomes through collaborative partnerships to stimulate economic recovery post-pandemic.

Additional solutions are being implemented to reduce the overall carbon footprint of the build including Photovoltaic panels, Sustainable urban drainage (SuDS) and future-proofing in the form of 50 electric vehicle charge points with the potential for a further 350.

As part of Willmott Dixon’s key supply chain, Rotec have secured the steel door package throughout the multi-storey car park and will be supplying and installing 129 doors on the project. General purpose, fire-rated and SR1 doors have been selected for the project to provide a secure, compliant solution.
