How can GRP Tank Covers perform better than Steel Tank Covers?

Steel can corrode and will deform easily under impact. Tank Covers manufactured from steel are very susceptible to chemical attack in the highly corrosive environment found underneath an odour control tank cover within a Waste Water Treatment Plant. In addition, if hit by a heavy object steel may be subject to permanent deformation and may need to be replaced.

GRP Tank Covers are highly resistant to corrosion due to the use of high grade resins that are suitable for the environment that the cover will be exposed to. This ensures that the Tank Structure remains structurally sound throughout its life and avoids unobserved corrosion to the underside of the cover that can potentially cause contamination from rust.
GRP performs exceptionally well under impact and would in many instances avoid the need for replacement. However, it the damage is considerable GRP the tank panels can be easily repaired in site.

How do GRP Tank Covers perform against chemicals?
On Waste Water Treatment & Sewage Treatment Plants chemical attack is a genuine concern and can cause significant damage to the plant and equipment.
Where Odour Control Tank Covers are required, such as Over Sludge and Treatment Tanks, the environment can be chemically aggressive resulting from the damp conditions and attack from Hydrogen Sulphide (NH2S), both of which can have a serious effect on steel.

Relinea can offer a range of resins that are specifically selected to fit the chemical environment the product is being exposed to. This combined with excellent design ensures that we will deliver a tank cover that is structurally strong throughout its life cycle and further avoid unobserved corrosion to the underside of the tank cover that can potentially cause cover failure.


Relinea s lightweight and self-supporting Conical (Circular) Shaped GRP Tank Covers are designed to fit onto either concrete or steel tanks up to a 20m diameter.
Our Standard Conical Tank Cover range has a 20 Pitch and consists of identical one piece segment that are lightweight and easily transported.

Each segment comes with external flanges that are bolted together around a central hub.

Our GRP Circular Tank Covers are manufactured using a high grade chemical resistant resin that is available in an array of RAL or BS4800 colour codes to suit client specification.
Relinea s self-supporting Conical GRP Tank Covers are generally designed to suit a 0.75 kN/m2 Uniform Loading in accordance with WUMES 8.05 and BS EN 1991-1 Standards. However, we have the capability to adapt our design to suit higher loading's to meet our clients requirements.

Conical Tank Covers are suitable where maintenance access only is required. If regular access is required a Low Profile Beam and Infill Tank Cover can be supplied.

Relinea can offer both Circular and Rectangular GRP Tank Covers that are of a low profile and can be designed for pedestrian access.

Relinea can provide Design Solutions for a custom built GRP Cover to meet both specific client requirements and site requirements. Such Bespoke Covers can be used for applications such as safety fall protection - as per the image above, demonstrating a Bespoke Tank Cover constructed using GRP Mesh Grating and GRP Bespoke Beams.
