Classroom Ceiling Hoist System with GH3 Hoist

by Multicare Medical Ltd

A full-coverage H-frame ceiling hoist system designed specifically for classroom environments where safe, efficient, and regular hoisting is required. This configuration provides either a 6 × 6 m or 8 × 8 m working area and incorporates the GH3 ceiling hoist unit for reliable, high-capacity lifting.

The system can be supplied using either C-rail or B-rail profiles to suit the structural conditions, providing optimal bearing capacity and reach while maintaining a clean, unobtrusive installation. With only four primary fixings, the layout allows generous clear spans and simplifies coordination with mechanical, electrical, and above-ceiling services.

This hoist system offers a Safe Working Load of up to 400 kg (63 st), meeting the Department for Education (DfE) guidance and performance requirements outlined in Building Bulletin 102 for inclusive learning environments.

•    Mounted to secondary steelwork or concrete soffit
•    Void depth of up to 3m (for larger void depths, please contact our technical team)
•    Maximum distance between support drops 8000mm
•    Maximum overhang 925mm
•    Loop spreader bar on hoist
•    Battery-powered hoist with battery protection system and handset charging

Yes. CAD drawings and Revit/BIM families can be supplied to support design coordination, clash detection, and ceiling layout planning.

The GH3 hoist operates from a low-voltage charging system and typically requires only a single fused spur for the transformer, depending on configuration.

The system is typically supplied in 6 × 6 m or 8 × 8 m H-frame configurations, but rail lengths can be customised to suit most classroom layouts, structural grids, or specialist teaching spaces.

Yes. The H-frame requires only four main fixings, allowing generous clear spans that make coordination with M&E services, ductwork, lighting, and ceiling grids straightforward. The installation can be designed to sit either above or below a suspended ceiling.

The system provides a Safe Working Load of up to 400 kg (63 stone), depending on rail type and configuration. This meets the requirements set out in Building Bulletin 102 for inclusive school environments.

Yes. C-rail and B-rail options are available to suit project requirements. B-rail is typically used where higher load capacity or increased rigidity is needed, while C-rail may be preferred for lighter structural conditions.

The GH3 hoist uses a continuous in-rail charging system, meaning it charges automatically wherever it is parked on the rail. No wall-mounted charging point is required.

Yes. The H-frame design provides complete coverage across the working area, allowing carers and teaching staff to transfer students safely anywhere within the classroom.

The system must be fixed to a suitable load-bearing structure—typically timber joists, steel beams, or a reinforced ceiling support. Project-specific structural calculations should be completed to confirm load paths.

Yes. Where required, the system can be designed with Combi-locks or handover points to link classrooms, hygiene rooms, or therapy spaces.

All hoisting equipment must be inspected in line with LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) every six months. The GH3 unit and track systems are designed to meet relevant EN/BS safety and performance standards.

Routine maintenance is minimal. The system requires bi-annual LOLER inspections and periodic servicing by a competent hoist engineer. Multicare offers full servicing and repair support if required.

The GH3 is compatible with a wide range of paediatric and adult slings, including supportive, hygiene, and bespoke options. Sling selection depends on the student’s needs.

Yes. The system is suitable for both new-build classrooms and retrofit installations, subject to structural assessment.

The GH3 is designed for low-noise operation, making it appropriate for teaching spaces where minimal disruption is important.
