A Carboniferous sandstone from the Rhondda Beds of Pennant Sandstone, Swansea. This fine grained blue grey sometimes red sandstone with brown and ochre tones is widely found in east Bristol and South Gloucestershire areas.

Pennant Sandstones have been quarried in the valley since the 17th Century when small families rented the land to excavate the Stone for building projects during the Victorian era, assisting in the rapid development of industry and housing. Today random walling stone characteristic of Welsh and Cumbrian building styles is predominantly hand crafted by masons.
