Langley Design worked with BAM on this £41 million project for Lancaster University. The Health Innovation One Building is an innovation hub offering co-location space for external organisations, as well as being the new home for Lancaster University’s Medical School and Division of Health Research base. We were tasked with manufacturing and installing two cycle shelters, one semi enclosed and the other fully enclosed, both with two tier racks which provide the maximum amount of bike storage and spatially efficient. These timber shelters encourage students to cycle to campus and offer a safe and secure location to store their bikes. We decided to space the cladding between the units in a way which allowed light to shine through whilst offering the opportunity to still see inside the cycle shelter to give users peace of mind that their bikes are secure but also visible from any untoward attention.
