A suspended workplace luminaire with a strong focus on sustainability. With a wooden frame, recycled reflectors, and reduced plastic components, the luminaire is made up of 77% recycled or renewable material. Beyond its construction, Kvisten offers exceptional operation efficiency and optimal lit experience.
The luminaire body is entirely made of wood: pine plywood and birch veneer, and no screws or other fasteners have been used. The reflectors are constructed of recycled TV sets, which not only have exceptional reflective characteristics but they also simply need to be cleaned and cut to shape, without any additional processes.
Minimising the number if components facilities easier disassembly and recycling when the fitting reaches the end of its life. The packaging is completely free from both EPS and plastics, and we’ve used recyclable materials throughout.
Every aspect of Kvisten has been developed to optimise the operational efficiency. The edges of the housing have been slightly tapered to increase the size of the optical area. With the reflectors, we have created a light chamber, pushing almost all the light out from the luminaire, which enables the diodes to run more gently which reduced the wattage. As the optic requires a tool to be removed, it doubles as a safety cover, removing the need for an additional cover and further improving the efficiency as the light has to travel through fewer layers of plastic.

The body of Kvisten comprises FSC-certified pine plywood sheets with an outer layer of birch. The assembly plate is made from FSC-certified pine plywood while some smaller details in the luminaire are made from poplar plywood that is 70% PEFC certified. The luminaire body is milled and varnished in Sweden, while the details and assembly plate are laser cut in Denmark.
All our luminaires are tested and carefully inspected at our own Technology Centre, and Kvisten is tested in accordance with all requirements set out in the EN 60598 safety standard. We never compromise on safety and never release anything that we don't think is up to standard.
In order to investigate and test the heat resistance of Kvisten, we commissioned a Glow Wire Test. This entails passing a 650ºC hot wire through the material without it catching fire.
The Kvisten frame is made from cross-glued plywood, which means they are very stable in shape and the respective parts are largely unaffected by moisture. When the luminaire is assembled, it becomes a stable shape. Kvisten is IP20 rated like most indoor luminaires.
