Revitalisation of Hilsea Lido Play Space

The existing play space, which featured a metal climbing unit and swings set within sand safety surfacing, had much of its equipment reaching the end of its life, necessitating a complete redesign.

To address this, eibe Play was commissioned to design a new play space, focusing on a metal climbing unit suitable for children aged 2-12. The aim was to enrich the area with new play additions that cater to a broad age group, offering diverse play features such as climbing, bouncing, balancing, and jumping. eibe Play chose the Steelox range to provide a dynamic look and appropriate play equipment for the community. The centrepiece of the new play area is the Active Play Multi-Towers Unit, which offers sliding, climbing, and jumping experiences, promoting role play and social interaction. Additional features include a sand construction unit and a sand digger, encouraging teamwork and construction play.

Minor landscaping improved wheelchair and pram access by removing sand and spoil from pathways. Additionally, Portsmouth City Council refreshed the sand pit with new sand. The play area opened in early February, with local children eagerly participating and enjoying the newly created play space. eibe Play plans to return with goodie bags for the grand opening in spring. The play area has been well-received and has remained busy since its opening.
