Town Thorns Care Home

24-03-2023

Major renovation works to the value of £4.3 million to refurbish a care home in Rugby to create new state-of-the-art facilities for its residents was completed in December 2022 and will now provide high-quality residential care accommodation for the area.

The refurbishment works at Town Thorns was completed by Ben, the charity dedicated to supporting the people of the automotive industry. It created an additional 44 ensuite rooms, as well as a roof terrace garden, a new shop, a bistro area, a hair salon and a multifunctional hall space.

Every bedroom suite has been completely revamped and redecorated to provide a comfortable and contemporary living space complete with a modern ensuite wet room with a sliding pocket door from ECLISSE UK. The sliding doors help to make better use of the available space and maximise potential for usable room layout.

The bedroom suites have been specified and designed to be practical for the delivery of care and nursing with more than sufficient space and high quality WIFI to improve connectivity and communication.

The ECLISSE UK sliding pocket doors make the rooms more disability friendly and allow for ease of access. Doorways can present a challenge for people that are partially sighted, have reduced mobility, or use a wheelchair. This is where ECLISSE UK sliding pocket door systems meet a vital need. The leading edge of traditional hinged doors may pose a hazard as it arcs towards them intruding into the corridor. Also, for wheelchair users the awkward backward and forward motion required to open a hinged door can be frustrating.

Also, because pocket doors are top-hung, and therefore do not require a threshold strip, they also create improved flow, and flooring can continue seamlessly throughout a building eliminating possible trip hazards.

For increased ease of access pocket doors can be installed with a minimum effective clear opening width of 800mm and above. In addition, a partially glazed door can be added to the system for improved visibility, as well as large bar handles to facilitate ease of opening.

ECLISSE UK supplied 44 hoist compatible pocket door systems to the project which were included in certain rooms to provide hoist access from the bedroom to the bathroom.

The hoist equipment will help with moving and handling requirements, and all bedrooms have the capability for connecting hoists if required. The ECLISSE UK patented Hoist Pocket Door System allows a hoist track to pass through the pocket door opening – especially useful for access to bathroom facilities such as toilets and bathing solutions. It is the perfect solution for residential care homes, and domestic homes alike.
