Hundreds of D+H UK’s strongest chain actuators installed on historic building transformation
Project
From 1902 to 1998, Lots Road Power Station fuelled the London Underground. At the time of its construction, it was dubbed the largest power station ever built. It burned 700 tones of coal per day which allowed District Line trains to make the transition from steam to electric. The re-imagined power station building stands at the heart of an 9-acre redevelopment, framed by the two new glass residential towers at the mouth of the creek. The re-purposed icon of London’s Victorian heritage offers 260 luxury apartments and helps to restore and revive this historic section of the Thames riverside. The building has now been transformed into a modern residential and commercial building where the listed facades and chimneys have been restored and the existing structure has been kept to make this project a model of sustainable development.
Systems
Our D+H actuators were installed as part of the smoke clearance system across the atrium roof. 240 of our CDP twin chain actuators were factory installed onto 3 metre wide Raico roof vents. The actuators each provide 3KN of opening force to enable 90° vent openings and are colour-matched to the vent frames for a seamless design. By providing 230 volt actuators, this allowed for a significant wiring reduction cost for the client. The careful planning and technical sophistication of our D+H solutions were crucial to the success of the redesign of the Lots Road Power Station. They ensure both functionality and safety,
