Described as “the Original Climb with no lift, no escalator and no one to carry you” the team arrived at 11.35am ready for their 12pm start. After the safety videos and instructions everyone was suited and booted up ready to embark on the steep 90 minute climb that reaches 52m at its highest point.
At the summit everyone was met by stunning 360 degree views of London, where they could just about make out the Wembley arch (approx. 20 miles away). Some of the Architects that joined Tom on the climb were even able to point out their sites around London. With the climb back down just as tricky as the way up, the team were relieved by the end as the steepness of the dome allows you to lean into your harness to counteract some of the hard work.
Once everyone was down safe and sound, the group headed to ‘All Bar One’ for a well-deserved buffet lunch followed by a presentation on “Condensation in the Roofspace”. They looked at the principals and effects of condensation, issues of detailing cold pitched roofs, ventilation and underlays and the benefits of Roofshield – the air and vapour permeable pitched roof underlay which provides the most cost - effective solution to controlling interstitial condensation in a pitched roof.
Many thanks to Eagle Roofing, Contour Roofing, SIG Roofing Supplies and Penoyre & Prasad LLP Architects for being great sports in joining us for a unique London Experience.
